CCR (Catholic Charismatic Renewal) is a stream of grace within the Catholic Church that began shortly after the Second Vatican Council. It emphasises the availability of the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit to every believer, and the need for a living personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Today the Renewal exists in over 238 countries, having touched over 120 million Catholics.
"The emergence of the Renewal following the Second Vatican Council was a particular gift of the Holy Spirit to the Church." St John Paul II, March 1992
CCR Brisbane provides assistance to 35 affiliated Catholic Charismatic prayer groups and ministries throughout the archdiocese of Brisbane. These prayer groups consist of English, Italian, Indonesian, Sri-Lankan, Spanish and Vietnamese speaking members of all ages who meet regularly in their own parishes for praise, worship, teaching, intercession and prayer ministry. Affiliated ministries have formed specific outreach activities, eg a retreat for women offered by Women of the Way, various ministries of music, teaching and ministry offered through the Catholics Come Alive program.
CCR Brisbane operates under the authority of Archbishop Mark Coleridge. Fr. Ihemelandu L. Uzuegbu has been appointed Liaison Priest for spiritual direction, and we are answerable, through him, to the Archbishop.
‘You, Charismatic Renewal, have received a great gift from the Lord. You were born of the will of the Spirit as "a current of grace in the Church and for the Church." This is your definition: a current of grace.’ Pope Francis, June 2014
